The article fears scientific funding can be politicized.. abuse is possible surely, but we have to accept the scientific enterprise is stuck in a rut. There are "popular avenues" when ppl dabble in them they get rewarded, and once in position of power they reward others for the same. This created a closed-loop system of punishment/reward that someone needs to break. Everywhere you look there are scientific inconsistencies that are not being resolved, and some of the "most promising" methods attempting to solve them failed to do so, one having failed for over 50 years. Who is going to fix this shit? The people who created the problem?
Ars Technica: "Near the end of May, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) proposed a new rule that would govern how the federal government handles the grants it issues, including those that fund the vast majority of scientific research in the US... I identified many potential problems with the rules. They specifically sidelined peer review as the primary measure of scientific merit"
